Anxious 70s

Description

"Requiem" is written in 1980. The work marks the end of a period of anxious seventies. The artist moves to Koncha-Zaspa, where he will work during last 10 years of his life. These years will be the most fruitful in his life. Here he will create his artistic style Ukrainian Secession, adding the Ukrainian coloring to the world art treasury.

The work has a profound philosophical content. A white figure may remind Moses, who is going to command the sea to lift the waves and give the people of Israel the passage through it. That means the requiem for the old world and the beginning of the New one. But before the New world comes, the one who leads must emerge.

The artist surpassed the time of ten years. By the time of Ukraine's Independence accession the group of advanced modern artists founded the artistic group "Picturesque Reserve". Among them were T. Silvashi and A. Krivolap. If you compare "Requiem" with the early works of the artists of the Picturesque Reserve, you can see the depth of thought that was then picked up by the offspring.

Provenance: The work was bought at the artist's workshop in Koncha-Zaspa in 1986 from the painter himself.
